Coachella Valley Traffic Stop Leads To Police-Involved Shooting
What began as a traffic stop Thursday morning in the Coachella Valley ended with an officer-involved shooting, authorities said.
COACHELLA VALLEY, CA -- A traffic stop ended with an officer-involved shooting Thursday morning in Desert Hot Springs, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Dept.
The incident began around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Ocotillo and Acoma avenues, according to the Sheriff's Department, which is investigating the shooting. Desert Hot Springs police officers pulled over a vehicle for an unknown reason when the driver put the vehicle in reverse and drove into one of the officers who had exited the patrol cruiser, KESQ in Palm Springs reported.

One of the officers fired a weapon and the passenger in the vehicle was arrested, but the driver wasn't apprehended until he crashed near the intersection of Fourth Street and Crescent Way, according to KESQ.

The suspect driver was taken to a hospital, but it is currently unclear whether he was injured in the crash or by gunfire. The officer who was struck by the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to the Sheriff's Dept.
The names of those arrested have yet to be released by authorities.
