Containment Grows On Palm Springs Brush Fire
Officials said the 211-acre Tram Fire burning in northern Palm Springs along Highway 111 was expected to be fully contained by Sunday night.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Fire officials said the 211-acre Tram Fire burning in northern Palm Springs along Highway 111 was expected to be fully contained by Sunday evening.
As of Sunday morning, the fire was 50% contained with firefighters expected to continue extinguishing hot spots throughout the day, according to the Palm Springs Fire Department.
The blaze was reported at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday and quickly blackened 50 acres near the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and Palm Springs Visitor Center.

Just before noon Saturday, fire officials said the blaze had consumed 100 acres before updating that figure to 192 acres early that afternoon. The fire grew marginally overnight to 211 acres.
Crews on the ground were being assisted by water-dropping airplanes and helicopters.

One firefighter suffered a leg injury while battling the blaze Saturday and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center, according to PSFD officials.
Several fire agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service, deployed crews to assist Palm Springs firefighters.
The blaze prompted authorities to close the southbound side of Highway 111 from Interstate 10 on Saturday, but the highway was open as of Sunday morning.
No evacuations were ordered and no structures were reported to be threatened.
