Monetary donations to support victims of last month's typhoon in the Philippines will be collected by the College of the Desert Alumni Association during its weekly street fair Saturday Dec. 21.
Donations will be collected at the fair's information booth, where KMIR television personality "Manny the Movie Guy," who is from the Philippines, will be on hand.
The funds will go to St. Joseph Orphanage & Center for the Handicapped in the Philippines, according to the alumni association.
The fair is set for 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fred Waring Drive and Monterey
Avenue in Palm Desert.
Barbaza, the native village of Aida Scott, a merchant at the fair, was wiped out during Typhoon Haiyan last month. Scott has relatives in the village, where 90 percent of the houses and buildings were destroyed, according to the alumni association.
"We are asking for donations from our merchants and customers to help the less fortunate Philippine people in their time of need,'' said Gene Marchu, executive director of the alumni association.
Donations will be accepted at the fair's information booth through the end of January.
