DUI Checkpoint Scheduled In Rancho Mirage

The operation will take place from 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, to 2 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18.

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA — The Riverside County Sheriff's Department announced it will hold a DUI checkpoint in Rancho Mirage this week.

The operation is scheduled from 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, to 2 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at an undisclosed location within the city.

During the checkpoint, officers will check drivers for signs of impairment from alcohol, drugs, prescription medications, and over-the-counter products.

"Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk," Lt. Rick Espinoza said. "Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety."

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, according to the sheriff's department.
