DUI Checkpoint Yields Arrest, Multiple Citations In Desert Hot Springs
Over 1,000 cars were contacted Friday night during the checkpoint.

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA — One person was arrested and three people were cited during a DUI checkpoint in Desert Hot Springs last weekend, police said Tuesday.
The checkpoint was conducted from 6 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday at Indian Canyon Drive at 19th Avenue, according to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department. The location was chosen based on data of impaired driving- related crashes in the area.
Of 1,044 vehicles contacted that night, one person was arrested for driving with a suspended license and three citations were issued for people driving unlicensed, police said.

"Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk," DHS Police Chief Jim Henson said in a statement. "Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety."
Police said impaired driving also includes marijuana, some prescription medication and over-the-counter drugs that could interfere with driving.

A first-time DUI charge could cost drivers about $13,500 in fines and penalties, according to police. Impaired drivers will also have their license suspended.
The next DUI checkpoint is set to be held in May.
