El Paseo Art Walk Moves to First Fridays Nov. 1: Inaugural First Weekend Palm Desert

El Paseo Art Walk events will now be held the first Friday of each month, beginning Nov. 1, as part of the new First Weekend Palm Desert, organizers said in an announcement this week.

This Friday's event is scheduled 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Participating galleries along El Paseo will have extended hours during art walk and invite the public to visit and make art part of their weekend.

"The Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert will participate with their free community evening at The Galen from 4-8 PM and live entertainment in the Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden from 5-7 PM," organizers said.

First Weekend Palm Desert is an initiative created by the City of Palm Desert, Palm Desert businesses and cultural organizations to celebrate the area's cultural assets and encourage residents and visitors to "put culture on your calendar" by coming out and enjoying the cultural activities in the area the first weekend of the month from November through May.

Participating organizations include El Paseo Art Walk, Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert, El Paseo Cruise Night, The Art Place, Palm Desert Art in Public Places Program, McCallum Theatre, The Gardens on El Paseo, The Living Desert, Indian Wells Theater at Cal State, and participating El Paseo art galleries, including Melissa Morgan Fine Art and Christian Hohmann Fine Art.

The City of Palm Desert and The Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert will host a First Weekend Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 3:330 p.m. Friday Nov. 1 at Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert, 72-567 Highway 111, Palm Desert.
