The College of the Desert (COD) Student Veterans Organization will be holding its 3rd Annual COD Veterans Day Ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 12:30 p.m. It will be in the quad area outside of the Dining Hall Building and east of the new Cravens Student Services Center. All are welcome to attend.
The presentation will include the History of Veterans Day and a description about each of the Armed Forces. Service flags of the 5 branches of Service will be on display to
honor those who have served in the military. At the end of the ceremony, Veterans will be asked to gather near their service flag. Also, a special recognition is planned for the
235th birthday of the United States Marine Corp.
Participating in the ceremony will be Dr. C. Douglas Kroll, Associate Professor of History at COD, a U.S. Coast Guard Academy graduate and former Coast Guard officer with a PhD in history. He is the author of "Commodore Ellsworth P. Bertholf: First Commandant of the Coast Guard", and "A Coastguardsman's History of the Coast Guard", among other publications. Kroll is a faculty advisor to COD's Student Veterans Organization along with Antoine Clerc, adjunct faculty of political science at the college.
College of the Desert has approximately 200 veterans attending and receiving the VA’s GI Bill benefits plus many more veterans of all ages from their 20’s to their late 80’s. For more information, please call Ms. Donni Prince, COD’s Veterans Specialist at 760 773-2536.
