Extreme Heat Warning In Palm Desert As Temperatures Climb

PALM DESERT, CA — An extreme heat warning took effect Wednesday at 10 a.m. for the Coachella Valley and San Gorgonio Pass near Banning as temperatures soared, with highs possibly reaching up to 118 degrees.

The National Weather Service said the warning would remain in place through 8 p.m. Thursday. Officials urged residents to stay hydrated, remain in air-conditioned spaces when possible, and check on vulnerable individuals, including neighbors and relatives, for signs of heat-related illness.

In Palm Desert, temperatures could near 116 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday.

A heat advisory, which is less severe, was also in effect for Riverside County’s valleys and mountains through 8 p.m. Thursday. Forecasters predicted valley temperatures could climb to 105 degrees, while mountain areas below 5,000 feet could see highs in the 90s.

Temperatures in inland regions were expected to be 5 to 10 degrees above average on Wednesday and Thursday. However, the heat wave is anticipated to ease by Friday, when highs are expected to dip by 4 to 8 degrees — ranging from the upper 80s to upper 90s across the Inland Empire, and up to 114 degrees in the lower desert regions.
