Expedia Names Palms Springs Top Winter Destination

The city was named one of the top locations for those looking to escape the cold winter months.

PALM SPRINGS, CA -- With midday temperatures in the 70s, Palm Springs has been named a top destination for those looking to escape icy, cold weather in the winter season. The list, titled "20 Best Places for Snowbirds this Winter," was compiled by Expedia.

The travel website describes a snowbird as someone "who migrates to a warmer destination to avoid the wrath of winter. If you dread scraping the ice off your car windshield, fall on black ice left and right, and swear you must be cold-blooded, you just may be a snowbird at heart."

Describing Palm Springs, Expedia said " it’s always the right time to order a cocktail and lounge on a chaise poolside in Palm Springs."

"The winter months are arguably the best time to visit as the desert heat eases up, leaving ideal temperatures perfect for all the best things to do in Palm Springs, like a stroll through the Palm Springs VillageFest and a hike on Andreas Canyon Trail," the website writes.

The recognition was praised by the local tourism bureau, which said, "our reputation honestly, having the world’s largest concentration of mid-century modern architecture. We have claimed our distinctive era of style and brand which can be experienced not only in our architecture, but in everything from interior design, fashion and unique shopping."
