Fatal Big-Rig Crash Shuts Down I-10 Freeway East Of Indio
Tuesday afternoon's fiery crash was reported near the Cactus City rest stop, according to the California Highway Patrol.

INDIO, CA — A big rig that overturned Tuesday alongside Interstate 10 east of Mecca erupted in flames and turned fatal, according to authorities.
The deadly crash was reported at 12:25 p.m. on eastbound I-10 near the Cactus City rest stop, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency stated that the tractor-trailer veered out of control and off the side of the freeway, rolling over next to an underpass and a frontage road. No other vehicles were involved.

At 1:49 p.m., the CHP reported that Cal Fire located a body in the truck's cab. Patch contacted Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, which confirmed the report.
No other fatalities were reported.

All westbound I-10 lanes were closed Tuesday afternoon at Frontage Road in Cactus City, and a SigAlert was in place for an unknown duration.
All traffic was being diverted off at Box Canyon Road, according to Caltrans District 8.
Firefighters made progress on the blaze.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
