
A fire broke out Wednesday in Indio and damaged two apartment, displacing five people, according to Cal Fire.
The fire was reported 1:38 p.m. Aug. 28 in the 82300 block of Valencia Avenue, east of Monroe Street and south of Interstate 10, according to Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County.
Six engine companies totaling 24 firefighters responded and found smoke and fire showing from the exterior of a multi-family dwelling, Hendrickson said in a statement. Crews declared knock-down on the fire at 1:59 p.m.
The fire damaged one unoccupied apartment and an adjoining apartment in the duplex, where five residents were displaced - two adults and three children, Hendrickson said. The Incident Commander requested American Red Cross for assistance.
No injuries were reported. There was no information about the cause of the fire.
Agencies that responded included Imperial Irrigation District and Indio Police.
