Former Rancho Mirage City Councilman Dana Hobart Dies At 93

Hobart worked in the city for more than 20 years.

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA — Former Rancho Mirage City Councilman Dana Hobart has died at the age of 93, officials announced Monday.

Hobart, who died Saturday, worked in Rancho Mirage for more than 20 years. He served as the city's mayor five times in 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2020.

Hobart was credited with his initiative to remove overhead power lines within city bounds, his involvement in creation of the public library and observatory, the amphitheatre and for his transparency.

City officials said that after announcing his retirement in 2021, Hobart and his wife, Vicki, donated their time to supporting local animal shelters.

"Dana Hobart was a pillar of Rancho Mirage — a man of vision, integrity and tireless dedication. His decades of public service left a lasting impact on our city through leadership, bold action and a genuine love for the community he served," Mayor Ted Weill said.
