Got A Drawer Full Of Old Cords? Recycle Them In Palm Desert On Sept. 20
Residents can recycle their forgotten electronics at Palm Desert's upcoming electronic waste collection event.
PALM DESERT, CA — Whether you've got an old laptop collecting dust or electronics that "no longer spark joy," the city of Palm Desert says you can let them go for good at this upcoming electronic waste collection event on Sept. 20.
From 7 to 11 a.m., the city is hosting a free waste collection event to help residents and local businesses responsibly dispose of unwanted electronics.
All collected items will be donated to Desert Arc Recycling, a local nonprofit that creats employment opportunities for residents with disabilities.

It's important to recycle unwanted cords and electrical devices since these products contain hazardous substances like lead, murcury and cadmium. If they're simply thrown in the garbage, these items can leach into soil and water, posing a threat to public health and the environment, the city says.
"Recycling them properly is an easy way to make a difference, and we’re making it easy for you," Palm Desert officials wrote.

Here's an example of what you can recycle:
- TVs and computer monitors
- Computers, printers, and accessories
- Small appliances and microwaves
- Phones, tablets, and video game systems
- Stereo equipment, radios, and cameras
- Vacuum cleaners
- Non-lithium batteries (tape both ends)
- Lightbulbs
However, large appliances like refrigerators, dryers and stoves will not be accepted. And while non-lithium batteries and light bulbs are not actually e-waste, they will still be accepted on Sept. 20.
Businesses that wish to drop off more than 20 items should call Desert Arc at 740-404-1370 to schedule an appointment.
"This event is just one of the ways Palm Desert continues to promote sustainability and community partnership," the city said. "We invite all residents and businesses to take part and make a positive impact toward a cleaner, greener future."
