Coroner IDs Hiker Who Died On La Quinta Mountain Bike Trail

Mountain bikers found the hiker and called 911 for aid and the hiker later died.

LA QUINTA, CA — The Riverside County Sheriff's Coroner has identified a man whose body was found unconscious by mountain bikers on a trail in La Quinta on Tuesday has died, authorities said.

Michael Pavalec, 63, of La Quinta, was found on the La Quinta Cove Trail, according to the coroner's report. His name was released after notification of his next of kin.

The agency said its personnel, along with a Riverside County Sheriff's Department aviation unit, responded to the scene. The cause of the victim's death was not immediately clear, and no further information was immediately available.
