Hiker Takes Spill On Idyllwild Mountain Trail, Requiring Rescue
Area residents apparently encountered the injured man while walking their dogs and called for help.

IDYLLWILD, CA — A hiker had to be rescued by firefighters after falling on a mountain trail just east of Idyllwild Friday, suffering a leg fracture that left him stranded.
The "hiker down" call was received about 11:35 a.m. on the Phoenix Trail near Humber Park, northeast of Howland Road, in the San Bernardino National Forest, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews converged at the trailhead, then firefighters hiked about 15 minutes to reach the patient, whose name not released.
The hiker was unable to walk under his own power, so firefighters used a stretcher to carry him to the emergency staging area, where he was loaded into an ambulance and taken to a hospital.
