Learn To Skate Where The Firebirds Play: Berger Foundation Iceplex

The program is intended to help give access to hockey to the local youth. Plus, they're getting some really cool NHL gear.

PALM DESERT, CA — The Berger Foundation Iceplex announced Wednesday that its after-school hockey program intended to help give local youth access to hockey is now sponsored by the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation for equipment and other supplie.

The Richard Oliphant Elementary School in Indio is participating in the Iceplex’s After School program.

“As the naming sponsor of the Berger Foundation Iceplex, it is important to our board that this community facility is a fun, safe, and healthy environment that provides equitable opportunities for Coachella Valley residents to experience hockey,” said Catharine Reed, Vice President of Charitable Programs for the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation. “The Learn to Skate program is another example of this initial vision becoming reality.”

This is the perfect seven-week program for the many young Firebirds fans interested in learning to play hockey. Each player has been sized and received a complete set of custom NHL Learn to Play Hockey equipment and will learn the fundamentals of ice skating and playing the sport of hockey.

The Berger Foundation has donated ice hockey equipment to the Iceplex for its new after-school Learn to Play Hockey Program, dedicated to introducing underprivileged youth to the game of hockey.

The 36,000sf Iceplex, located adjacent to Acrisure Arena, features a 250-spectator seat NHL ice rink, four locker rooms, two party room areas, and a mezzanine for skaters and viewers to enjoy concessions while connecting with friends.

Many special events are open to the public, including hockey and skating programs, tournaments, exhibition ice shows, plus themed and charitable activities including DJ Skate nights, Frozen 5k, and more.

The Iceplex is the official training center of the Coachella Valley Firebirds. In addition to daily public ice skating sessions, the Iceplex is home to the CV SK8 Academy, Adult and Junior Hockey Leagues, Birthday Parties, and more. Opportunities for private ice rental for tournaments, broomball, corporate, nonprofit and other special events are also available.
