Mailing Of Palm Desert Calendar Axed To Save Costs

Calendars available for pickup at locations throughout Palm Desert.

For the first time, Palm Desert residents will not receive the city's free 2011 calendar in the mail as part of a cost cutting measure.

"It's a big change to our residents,'' said David Hermann, the city's spokesman.

Instead, the calendars have been placed at various locations, including assisted living facilities, mobile home park offices, the , and the , according to Hermann.

The calendars, which cost $23,315 to produce, feature scenes throughout Palm Desert, including the city-owned and .

Former Councilman Dick Kelly chose the theme of the calendar –Seasons of Fun – shortly before his death in August. Kelly had served on the council for 28 years.

"His wife was able to work with staff on it and realize the theme,'' Hermann said.

City Manager John Wohlmuth dedicated the calendar in honor of Kelly for the councilman's longtime service to the city.
