Man Rescued From Pushwalla Trailhead In The Desert: Cal Fire

Firefighters hiked about a mile from the trailhead to rescue a hiker in the midst of a medical emergency. Here's what happened.

THOUSAND PALMS, CA — An injured hiker who sustained minor injuries was rescued from the mountain above Thousand Palms Thursday by Cal Fire/Riverside County Firefighters.

The hiker, who suffered a medical emergency, was unable to return from the remote Pushawalla Palms Trailhead in Thousand Palms without assistance, Cal Fire Spokesperson Maggie Cline De La Rosa told Patch.

The rescue was reported about 2 p.m. Thursday in the Coachella Valley National Wildlife Refuge, near Ramon and Thousand Palms Canyon roads, according to De La Rosa.

Firefighters set out on foot to aid the injured hiker, who was trapped on the trail, and were taken to a local hospital by ground ambulance.

Luckily, he remained on the trail, and air support was not required, she said. Firefighters asked for a transport system to carry him the mile back to the ambulance.

He remained in stable condition, the department stated. The medical emergency was not specified.
