Massive Development Proposed Along I-10 In North Indio
The mixed-use Oasis At Indio proposal is eyed for 183 acres of undeveloped land.

INDIO, CA — Plans to build a massive project on approximately 183 acres of undeveloped land along Interstate 10 in North Indio will be discussed this week during a community meeting.
Developers of the proposed Oasis At Indio project will host the meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at College of the Desert in Indio, 45524 Oasis Street, lecture hall B-106. The public is encouraged to attend.
Bounded by Avenue 42 to the north, Monroe Street to the east, the Thousand Palms Storm Channel to the west, and the I-10 to the south, the project proposes medium to high-density multi-family residential units, commercial retail spaces, and light industrial buildings.

According to the plans, the project would feature 75.5 acres of land designated for mixed uses, allowing up to 3,240 multi-family residential units and 20,000 square feet of commercial uses, as well as approximately 1,806,000 square feet of light industrial use.
Some local residents have expressed concerns about the proposal, including truck traffic, air pollution, electricity and water services for the project, and constraints on police, fire, and education.

Project proponents say the development would help "implement an Avenue 42 corridor" by establishing a pattern of connected uses with walkable neighborhoods close to public transit.
The company behind the proposal is California-based BH Properties.
