Mulch Pile Fire Burns Near Perris, Firefighters Expect Long Response

Firefighters were working to contain a deep, sprawling mulch pile fire near Perris after flames broke out Friday morning.

PERRIS, CA — A large mulch pile fire broke out Friday morning in an unincorporated area near Perris, drawing a sizable response from Riverside County firefighters.

Crews were dispatched at 8:25 a.m. to the 21000 block of Yucca Road and found a mulch pile roughly three-quarters of an acre in size and up to 15 feet deep burning, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple fire engines and two water tenders responded, and one department excavator was en route to assist with breaking apart the deep-seated materials.

Because of the size and depth of the mulch pile, firefighters are expected to remain on scene for six to eight hours as they work on containment and overhaul, officials said.

No injuries were immediately reported.
