Palm Desert Road Closures Announced For USA Women's Half-Marathon

PALM DESERT, CA — City officials released a pair of traffic alerts Friday about upcoming closures related to running events over the weekend.

Saturday's USA Women's Half-Marathon, beginning 7:30 a.m. at Civic Center Park, will necessitate the closure of San Pablo from Fred Waring Drive to Magnesia Falls and Magnesia Falls from San Pablo to Monterey Avenue between 3 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to one alert.

The course's layout will also shut down the lanes closest to the curb on northbound Monterey Avenue from Magnesia Falls to Gerald Ford Drive, eastbound Gerald Ford to Gateway, northbound Gateway to Dinah Shore Drive and eastbound Dinah Shore to Portola Avenue.

A second alert, concerning Sunday's Palm Desert Charter Middle School Panther 5K, noted the 5 a.m. closure of El Paseo between Portola and Highway 74 for six hours, allowing the race to occur at 8 a.m.

City officials advised drivers to exercise caution while traveling through the area or use alternate routes, if possible.
