Palm Springs Remains On Edge Months After Fertility Clinic Explosion
Residents near the Palm Springs High School reported hearing an explosion, leading police to investigate the cause.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A loud noise sparked multiple reports of an explosion at a Palm Springs High School on Thursday morning, police say, showing a city that remains on edge four months after a bombing at a nearby Fertility Clinic.
Just after 9 a.m., Palm Springs police received numerous reports of people hearing an explosion at Palm Springs High School. Police investigated and determined the noise stemmed from the sounds of a vehicle backfiring.
Officers and fire crews reported to the call about an explosion shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday at 2401 E. Baristo Road, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

Officers deemed the campus to be safe at that time, police said.
As a precaution, authorities will remain at the scene for an unspecified amount of time to continue to search the school grounds.

In May of this year, a Palm Springs fertility clinic, located at 1199 N. Indian Canyon Drive, was hit with a deadly bomb, and the man suspected of causing the explosion died. Guy Edward Bartkus, 25, of Twentynine Palms, caused the explosion and was believed to have authored an "anti pro-life manifesto."
City officials and others expressed optimism regarding the future of the Palm Springs fertility clinic that was targeted in what authorities have described as an act of domestic terrorism, vowing the clinic will go on and acknowledging the outpouring of community support in the wake of the bombing.
