Pedestrian Dies From Injuries Weeks After Collision In Cathedral City

The man was able to tell officers he had been hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the road.

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — A 52-year-old man who told police he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Cathedral City last month has died from his injuries, police said Wednesday.

Officers received a report of the crash on Ramon Road shortly after 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 25, according to a statement from the Cathedral City Police Department. Officers found Ruben Mijarez of Cathedral City in the eastbound lanes on a bridge, police said.

Mijarez told officers he had been hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the road, though police were unable to determine whether he was struck in the eastbound or westbound lanes, according to the department.

Officers did not locate any witnesses or the suspect's vehicle, police said.

Mijarez was transported by the Cathedral City Fire Department to Desert Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Loma Linda. He died from his injuries on Feb. 10, police said.
