Power Outage Affects Over 9K Coachella Valley Residents

SoCal Edison has reported a power outage in the area of Indian Wells, where temperatures threaten to top 117 degrees.

INDIAN WELLS, CA — More than 9,000 Southern California Edison customers in Indian Wells were without power Thursday while facing extreme heat in the Coachella Valley.

The outage's cause was not immediately revealed, according to the SCE outage map website; however, at 5 a.m., a vehicle collision was reported nearby, at Camino Dorado south of Highway 111.

SCE began working the scene shortly before 9 a.m.

"A field investigator has been alerted and is on route to the outage," they said. The problem is still being analyzed.

About 9,717 customers were involved in the outage amid temperatures that promised to soar to 117 degrees.

The exact cause of the outage was not immediately available, and was expected to be restored before 3 p.m. Thursday, according to the site.
