Power Outages Reported In Desert Amid Lightning Strikes, Storm Conditions

Thousands of residents were without power.

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA — Nearly 4,800 Southern California Edison customers lost power Tuesday in Desert Hot Springs following lightning strikes and storm conditions.

According to SCE, the first outage occurred around 3:23 a.m. Tuesday, affecting three customers in the area of Puesta del Sol and Valencia Drive. Power was expected to be restored by 12:30 p.m.

At around 8:27 a.m., lightning struck near West Arroyo Drive south of Estrella Avenue, cutting electricity to 161 customers, according to SCE. A repair crew was dispatched, with service expected back by 3:30 p.m.

A larger outage was reported at about 9:30 a.m., leaving 4,635 customers without electricity in the areas of Granada and Hacienda avenues. The cause of that outage remains under investigation, and no restoration time has been announced, according to SCE.
