Rhythm And Hues Art Museum Black History Month Event Planned Thursday

Palm Springs Art Museum Fashion Showcase premiers Thursday in the main museum, featuring a local fashion icon and jazz concert.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — The Palm Springs Art Museum on Thursday will continue its free weekly night sessions to celebrate Black History Month.

A Rhythm and Hues Fashion Showcase will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the main museum at 101 North Museum Way. It will feature local fashion designer Aneka Brown paired with jazz melodies of Wayne Cobham and food curated by guest chefs Betty Berrysmith and Amber Evans.

"Meet us in the Meyerman Garden as we immerse ourselves in the vibrant tapestry of Black History Month through the lens of fashion," museum officials said, promising "an unforgettable evening of style, culture and culinary delights."

The events, which got underway last week with Sugar Shack: Jazz- Inspired Night Sessions, will continue at the same time each Thursday. A second Sugar Shack event with a blues- and soul-inspired night sessions will take place Feb. 22, and a Block Party celebrating 50 years of hip-hop will conclude the events on Feb. 29.

The museum partnered with the Palm Springs Black History Month Committee to present the month-long celebration, which is part of a larger, citywide series of events scheduled throughout February. The festivities started Feb. 1 with an event celebrating the Harlem Renaissance and African American culture and arts and continued Saturday with the 37th annual Black History Month Awards Gala. Other activities include a men's basketball tournament on Saturday, a Palm Springs Black History Caravan on Feb. 19, and the 37th annual Palm Springs Black History Month Parade and Town Fair on Feb. 24.
