RivCo Man, 78, Arrested On Suspicion Of Pulling Firearm On His Son

Police set up a perimeter around the man's home in Cathedral City.

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — A 78-year-old man was arrested in Cathedral City on Wednesday after he was accused of pointing a gun at his son, authorities said.

Officers responded to the 68700 block of Durango after receiving reports of a "family disturbance," Sgt. Heather Olsen of the Cathedral Police Department told Patch.

A victim told officers his father had brandished a firearm at him inside the home. The victim left the home shortly after the incident and called 9-1-1.

Since there was a firearm involved, Olsen said police set up a perimeter around the home and conducted a "surround and call-out" for the suspect inside.

John Tavarez exited the home and was taken into custody without incident. He was later booked into the Indio Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
