RivCo Mom, 5-Year-Old Shot, One Arrested

The mother and her 5-year-old son brought to the hospital by ambulance in critical but stable condition Wednesday, Indio cops say.

INDIO, CA — A mother and her 5-year-old son were hospitalized in critical but stable condition Wednesday after being shot in Indio, and a suspect was taken into custody.

Officers responded shortly after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday to the 43700 block of Deglet Noor Street following reports of a shooting, according to the Indio Police Department.

Authorities later executed a search warrant at the suspect's residence, where the individual was taken into custody without incident, police said.

The identities of the suspect and the victims were not released.

The woman was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center, and her son was transported to JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, according to police.

"There are no outstanding suspects and no threats to the community," police said in a statement.

The investigation involved Indio detectives, the Riverside County District Attorney's Office Gang Impact Team and the East Post-Release Accountability Compliance Team.
