Rubbish Fire Sends Black Smoke Plume Into Desert Sky
Cal Fire firefighters say a "significant amount of black rising from the area" near Desert Hot Springs.

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA — A rubbish fire was extinguished in Desert Hot Springs, authorities said.
The Desert Hot Springs Police Department responded to multiple calls regarding a fire at approximately 11:30 a.m. Saturday near Hacienda and Mesquite avenues, where Cal Fire reported witnessing "significant amount of black rising from the area," according to a police post on Facebook.
Video showed the police department's Unmanned Aircraft Systems Drone Team providing officers and Cal Fire at the scene a real-time aerial view of the scene with the use of a drone.

Firefighters doused the blaze in a large pile of trash near a residential area.
"We want to thank our community for reporting the incident promptly and our partners at Cal Fire for their quick action," DHS police wrote.

The cause of the fire was not clear.
