Semi-Truck Trailer Breaks In Half During I-10 Desert Crash

The damaged big rig was declared a traffic hazard, blocking all lanes.

DESERT CENTER, CA — A semi truck trailer broke in half Friday as the truck crashed into another vehicle on the I-10 freeway.

The truck was traveling westbound on the I-10 just east of Corn Springs near mile marker 117 when it ran into a white Toyota RAV4 at about 10:07 a.m. Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The damaged big rig was declared a traffic hazard, blocking all lanes. An ambulance was requested to the scene shortly after.

Officials were still evaluating the situation as they arrived at the scene just before 10:30 a.m., CHP Officer Jeff Knutson told City News Service. The truck driver sustained major injuries, while the RAV4 driver's condition is believed to be less severe, according to Knutson.

All lanes were reopened by 1:40 p.m.
