Severely Burned Woman Dies After Injuries Sustained In Coachella Fire

The injured woman was discovered in a field next to a business located in Coachella's 51000 block of Harrison Street.

COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — A woman who was severely burned last week in a Coachella vegetation fire did not survive her injuries, according to the coroner's bureau.

Arlene Avila, 43, of Coachella died at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton about eight hours after being discovered with burn injuries. She was found by deputies at about 12:16 a.m. in a field next to a business located in Coachella's 51000 block of Harrison Street.

The law enforcement officials were responding to a fire burning near the intersection of Cesar Chavez Street and 51st Street. There was no word on the cause of the blaze or why Avila was in the area.
