'Some Kind Of Wonderful' Kicks Off Sunnylands 'Films In The Garden'

It's all 80s all the time at the next series of films at Sunnylands Center and Gardens in Rancho Mirage. Bring your chairs and a picnic!

PALM DESERT, CA — Sunnylands Center and Gardens announced Friday it will resume its free, once-a-week "Films in the Gardens" outdoor movie series next week, beginning a run of three back-to-school films from the 1980's.

The center, at 37977 Bob Hope Drive, will reopen Wednesday, and the film series begins Friday with a screening of "Some Kind of Wonderful."

The film gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m., and filmgoers are encouraged to take their lawn chairs, blankets and small picnics, as food and seating will not be provided.

The series will continue the following two Fridays -- with "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" on Sept. 22 and "The Breakfast Club" on Sept. 29.

Sunnylands spokesman Eric J. Ornelas said that, depending on weather conditions, the films could be canceled at any time.
