PALM SPRINGS, CA — A 24-year-old man accused of leading police on a vehicle chase prior to hiding out in a dumpster in Palm Springs was free Thursday on $5,000 bail.

Trevon Rasheed Farmer of Cathedral City was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio Wednesday on suspicion of resisting arrest and evading a peace officer.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Farmer about 8:30 p.m. in the 500 block of South Palm Canyon Drive and determined he had a warrant out for his arrest, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

His vehicle was located a short while later unoccupied. Officers found him hiding in a nearby dumpster with the help of witnesses, police said, and he eventually surrendered.
