Charges Expected For Arrestee Suspected Of Violent Crimes In Thermal

A man arrested on suspicion of holding a 42-year-old woman against her will will face felony charges, Riverside County Sheriff's say.

MECCA, CA — Felony charges are expected Wednesday against a man who was arrested in Mecca under suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping, domestic assault and false imprisonment.

Deputies from the Thermal Station were flagged down on the 91000 block of Fifth Street in Mecca Thursday in reference of a 42-year-old woman who was allegedly kidnapped, beaten, strangled with a belt and held against her will for over eight hours, according to Sgt. Matthew Allert from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Allert said that the woman sustained moderate injuries. She was treated and subsequently released from the hospital.

After Daniel Gamez Zaragoza, 39, of Thermal was identified as a suspect, he was located and arrested at his residence in the 69300 block of Pierce Street in Thermal Sunday morning.
