Suspect Barricades Inside Coachella Valley Home, Arrested After Hours-Long Standoff

A wanted suspect refused to leave this Indio home Thursday, prompting a SWAT team response.

INDIO, ,CA — A wanted suspect was arrested after barricading inside an Indio residence, prompting a police standoff and several road closures before the person was finally taken into custody.

Officers responded to a report of a wanted suspect shortly before 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the 82000 block of Valencia Avenue, according to Sgt. Abraham Plata of the Indio Police Department.

A witness told authorities that the suspect was allegedly seen at the location.

After officers attempted multiple times to communicate with the suspect through a tactic called surround and callout, the suspect refused to leave the residence, which prompted a standoff. Desert Regional S.W.A.T was requested to assist at the scene, Plata said.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., the suspect, whose identity was not revealed, exited the residence and was arrested without further incident.

The case remains an ongoing investigation.

Road closures on Valencia Avenue between Sungold Street and Palm Street, and Sungold between Tahquitz Avenue and Hoover Avenue have since fully reopened.
