The company has donated $10,000 to a swim program aimed at providing free lessons and water safety education to local children.

PALM DESERT, CA — A Coachella Valley landscape and outdoor design company announced Friday it has donated $10,000 to a swim program aimed at providing free lessons and water safety education to local children.

Teserra, an outdoor living and pool design company, donated to Step Into Swim — an initiative of the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance — during the 11th annual Fluidra Foundation charity golf tournament, company officials said.

The program, led by three-time Olympic gold medalist Rowdy Gaines, has provided swim lessons to more than 300,000 children across the country, with a focus on underserved communities, according to its website.

"This initiative strikes at the heart of what we do," Paul Yates, president of Teserra, said in a statement. "We're known for building stunning pools throughout Southern California -- but making sure kids have the ability to enjoy those pool safely is just as important. Supporting Step Into Swim is an investment in the well-being of our community."
