Technical Issues Prompt Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Closure

The tram was shut down Wednesday morning and will remain closed through Friday.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Due to repair delays caused by this week's storms, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway will remain closed for one more day, a spokesman said Thursday, with reopening expected Saturday.

Greg Purdy, a spokesman for the tramway, told City News Service on Wednesday that a daily inspection that morning discovered unspecified "technical" issues that forced the popular attraction's closure. Purdy initially said the tram would be reopened by Friday, but the storms that hit the region on Wednesday delayed the repair work.

"Regrettably, (Wednesday's) thunderstorms prevented us from commencing our repair work, so this extra closure day was unavoidable," he said.

The tramway is now expected to reopen Saturday.

Tramway officials telephoned people with advance reservations on Wednesday to notify them of the closure. Alerts were also posted on social media and on the Tramway's website, and signs were posted at the Tramway entrance.
