📰 News we're reading

1. Peak Travel Season Hits Palm Springs International Airport: What To Know When You Go (patch.com) — Holiday crowds are about to pack Palm Springs International Airport, with more than 55,000 departing passengers expected between December 20 and 28 and the busiest days on the 22nd, 26th, and 28th. Local travelers are urged to arrive early, expect crowded parking with overflow lots in use, and plan for longer security lines, especially from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

2. Famed members club Soho House renews interest in Palm Springs (desertsun.com) — Palm Springs is once again being eyed for a Soho House members club, with a new “Soho Desert House Palm Springs” application now before city planners. The project, planned for the historic Colony 29 site, would include club spaces, 17 bedrooms, and a large pool, but still needs technical review, planning commission approval, and neighborhood input before it can move forward.

3. Palm Desert council rejects proposal to halt Pride recognition (desertsun.com) — Palm Desert’s city council has voted 4-1 to keep flying its Pride banner and continue recognizing Greater Palm Springs Pride each November, rejecting a proposal to roll back that support. After hours of emotional public comment, residents and regional leaders — including a Palm Springs councilmember — warned that ending the recognition would hurt LGBTQ visibility, youth, and the Coachella Valley economy.

4. Kimberly Barraza appointed president of Healthcare District Board (kesq.com) — Palm Springs’ Desert Healthcare District has a new board president, with Kimberly Barraza stepping into the role as the agency sets priorities for 2026 and beyond. A zone five board seat is now vacant, and Coachella Valley residents living there can apply by Jan. 5 for possible appointment at a Jan. 8 public meeting.

5. Bay Area Airport To Let Visitors Say Goodbye At The Gate (patch.com) — Palm Springs International Airport is highlighted as one of a few California airports already letting non-ticketed visitors go through security to meet travelers at the gate, a perk Oakland is now adopting. While the new program is specific to Oakland, it underscores a broader trend that could shape how Coachella Valley residents experience airports across the state.
