Palm Springs admits missteps on warehouse plan, will meet with tribe (desertsun.com) — Palm Springs officials are organizing a joint public meeting with the Agua Caliente tribe early next year so residents can weigh in on a massive 2.9‑million‑square‑foot warehouse-style project at the city’s north gateway. City leaders admit they notified the public too late, are filing a report saying the project conflicts with local zoning, and are pushing for changes to traffic, emergency services, and environmental impacts even though they can’t block the development outright.
   

2. Pedestrian Killed In Palm Springs Hit-And-Run (patch.com) — Palm Springs police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run after a pedestrian was found dead Sunday along northbound Highway 111 between Tipton and Snow Creek roads. Officers say the suspect vehicle is believed to be white with front-end or passenger-side damage, and they’re asking anyone who may have seen something to contact the PSPD Traffic Division.
   

3. Governor Newsom announces appointments 12.12.2025 (ca.gov) — A Palm Springs resident, Jesse Melgar, has been appointed to the powerful California Community Colleges Board of Governors, giving the city a direct voice in statewide higher education policy. Governor Gavin Newsom also named several other Californians to major state boards, but Melgar’s role is the one most closely tied to opportunities and oversight affecting local community college students.
   

4. Palm Springs International Film Awards To Honor Kate Hudson With Icon Award, Actress - (pstribune.com) — Palm Springs will host the star-studded International Film Awards at the Convention Center on January 3, 2026, during the city’s annual film festival. Kate Hudson will receive the Icon Award, Actress for her performance in “Song Sung Blue,” joining a lineup of high-profile honorees and drawing major Hollywood attention to Palm Springs.
   

5. NCHC: SCSU gets a 'must win' with comeback victory over No. 5/6 Denver (stcloudlive.com) — St. Cloud State’s men’s hockey team rallied past Denver, and their next stop is Palm Springs, where they’ll face Yale at the Coachella Cactus Cup on January 2. Players say this comeback win gives them crucial momentum heading into the Palm Springs tournament, which could be a fun draw for local fans following college hockey.
