Riverside County growth drives new housing, libraries, fire stations (desertsun.com) — Riverside County leaders are crediting the Palm Springs Navigation Center with helping drive a 19% drop in unsheltered homelessness, and they’re praising a Palm Springs resident for sparking the project. At a “state of the county” event in Thousand Palms, officials also detailed new housing, parks, libraries and fire stations planned across the Coachella Valley.

2. Two Palm Springs area restaurants didn't pass health inspections (desertsun.com) — Riverside County health inspectors checked Coachella Valley restaurants this week, including several in Palm Springs, and all but two eateries in the region earned an A grade. The two restaurants needing reinspections are in Rancho Mirage and La Quinta, with follow-up visits already scheduled or pending.

Governor Newsom announces appointments 12.12.2025 (ca.gov) — Palm Springs resident Jesse Melgar has been appointed to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors, giving the city a direct voice in statewide community college policy. The longtime public servant and UC Riverside graduate will serve in a Senate-confirmed, per-diem role alongside several other newly named state appointees.

DannyLux Misses Out on Latin Grammy Award (sjcctimes.com) — Palm Springs–raised singer DannyLux, whose musical roots trace back to local festivals and a salvaged guitar from a Coachella trash can, just missed out on a Latin Grammy win for his album “LEYENDA.” Even without the trophy, his hometown Coachella 2023 performance, hundreds of millions of streams, and growing award nominations are rapidly elevating this Palm Springs native in the Latin music world.

5. Sporting Kansas City jerseys to feature Saint Luke's sleeve patch as part of multi-year partnership (kshb.com) — Sporting Kansas City will wrap up its 2026 preseason in Palm Springs during the Coachella Valley Invitational from Feb. 3-14, bringing MLS action to the desert. The club also announced a new jersey sleeve partnership with Saint Luke’s, which becomes its official health care provider starting in 2026.
