2 Arrested In Connection With 9-Year-Old Boy's Peninsula Drowning

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — Two family members were arrested Thursday in connection with the drowning of 9-year-old boy earlier this year, Mountain View police said.
Rocio Berberli Ochoa, 25, and Pedro Rivera, 42 (both of Mountain View), were arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, police said.
Both were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

The arrests culminated an investigation that began when officers at around 4 p.m. July 6 responded to the 1800 block of Ednamary Way on the report of an unresponsive child at a swimming a pool.
The child was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Detectives investigating the drowning determined that no adult was present when the drowning occurred, and that Ochoa and Rivera were responsible for neglecting to keep a watchful eye on the child, police said.
“This news is devastating for our community, particularly the parents and students impacted by this tragic loss,” police Capt. Saul Jaeger said in a statement.
“I am grateful for the perseverance of our detectives in getting to the bottom of this case and bringing some justice to this young boy.”
