From India, Rastogi believed in arranged marriages. She married Gattani, also an engineer, at the age of 24 in a lavish and traditional Indian wedding in 2009. The abuse began shortly after the wedding, Rastogi told Megyn Kelly on her show Monday. They have one child together.

Her Husband's Abusive Behavior Has Been Reported Before

Gattani received probation after allegedly attacking his wife in front of witnesses, according to an article on www.domesticshelters.org. The article said Gattani was seen "pummeling" toward Rastogi in front of a mail carrier. He received a short probation, and their marriage continued as Rastogi said she believed in the traditional marriages and wanted to keep the family together for the sake of her daughter.

A Recording Helped Her Case

Rastogi recorded a conversation with her husband in May 2016 that proved to be essential in her case. The nearly six-minute long audio recording shows Gattani's control over his wife.
