Argument Over Dirty Street Leads To Felony Battery

PALO ALTO - One man has been arrested in Palo Alto for felony battery after he got into an argument with another man over the cleanliness of a nearby street.

Police booked 64-year-old Steven Edward Garrett of Mountain View into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for felony battery causing serious bodily injury.

On Friday, February 26, at about 8:34 p.m., the Palo Alto dispatch center received a call from a man reporting a fight that had just occurred in the 200 block of Olive Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying down in his vehicle nearby. Police say the victim’s face was covered in blood.

An initial investigation revealed that the victim and Garrett both were residing in their vehicles on Olive Avenue.

Police say they got into a verbal argument over the cleanliness on the street, and that the argument soon turned physical.

The victim sustained broken bones in his face, cuts on his face, and a laceration to his forearm that appeared to be a stab wound.

Police say they recovered a small folding knife from Garrett’s vehicle. The man sustained small cuts on his hands but was otherwise uninjured.

Paramedics from the Palo Alto Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.
