East Palo Alto Fifth Grader Seeks Donations To Aid Homeless

EAST PALO ALTO, CA — A fifth grader working with a Peninsula nonprofit is seeking donations of hygiene supplies with a goal of distributing 300 hygiene kits at a homeless encampment.

Citlaly Arroyo, a 10-year-old enrolled in Thiebaut Method — an East Palo Alto-based nonprofit that assists youth by having them help their communities through projects for the social good — is training six of her peers from East Palo Alto in helping to address homelessness.

Citlaly said she is attempting to help “prepare the next generation to help the homeless.” She will pass out the hygiene supplies — like shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors and shaving cream — on Oct. 30, but donations that come in afterwards will also be accepted

Earlier this year, Citlaly presented her homeless hygiene kit project at an East Palo Alto City Council meeting.

Next year, Thiebaut Method is launching a bi-monthly donation drive to support different needs in East Palo Alto, and one of them will be hygiene kits, according to founder Paul Thiebaut III.
