Facebook Tells Employees: Move Closer, Get $10,000

Bay Area traffic gridlock ranks only behind Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. Facebook wants employees to 'like' their solution.

MENLO PARK-Facebook is offering employees at its Menlo Park headquarters at least $10,000 to move closer to the office according to a report from Reuters.

To receive the payment, employees must buy or rent a home within 10 miles of the Facebook campus at One Hacker Way, a lonely road that lies on the east side of Highway 101, just north of East Palo Alto.

The wire service suggests not all in the Facebook neighborhood are happy with the newcomers, who locals call “los Facebuqueros”.

Locals who have seen East Palo Alto try to turn the corner on crime over the past several years must now cope with evictions and extraordinary rent costs because of the new residents, according to the article.
