Happy Father’s Day To Arun Bhattacharya

"Even though we've had our share of fights, we've had more peaks than valleys."

In celebration of Father's Day on Sunday June 17, we asked Patch readers to write a letter to their father and let us deliver it. This is Arohi Bhattacharya's letter to her dad:

Dear Dad,

I love you. I don’t say it often, but I do. You mean the world to me. You’re always there for me. You’re there at my long-distance soccer games, my choir recitals, even when I need glitter for my school projects and the closest store is five miles away. You play one of the most important roles in my life, and I’m grateful that I have a dad, someone to look forward to seeing every day.

You support me in everything I do and always tell me to follow my dreams, that you’ll be proud of me no matter what. When you comfort me after a huge loss, no matter what the occasion, the speech that you give me is always the one that impacts me the most. Even though we’ve had our share of fights, we’ve had more peaks than valleys. You take chances and risks for our family, for me, and you always put us first. This is the day where we do that for you.

I also want to thank you for everything that you’ve done for me. Thank you for surprising me on my fourth birthday by coming back from Europe through a snowstorm. Thank you for healing the wounds in my heart after I was told I wasn’t good enough. Thank you for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. Thank you for all the memories we’ve shared together, and many of them documented through phone videos. Thank you for making me laugh when I’m at the lowest of the low and reminding me that the best thing about hitting rock bottom is the chance to come up.

Thank you for studying math with me until 1 in the morning because I stressed out over finals the next day. Thank you for everything that you’ve done for me. I will never take it for granted. Thank you for being patient with me when I’m unnecessarily angry. I have cherished these 13-and-a-half years, and I’m waiting for many more memories to come.

Happy Father’s Day!

Love,
Arohi
