Interim Santa Clara Co. Schools Superintendent Named
BREAKING: In the wake of former Superintendent Jon Gundry's departure, a deputy superintendent will assume the temporary role.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA —The Santa Clara County Board of Education named a new interim
superintendent of the County Office of Education on Wednesday. Mary Ann Dewan joined the office five years ago as chief of schools officer, and in 2015 she became the deputy superintendent.
During its meeting Wednesday, the Board of Education voted unanimously to select Dewan as the new interim superintendent. She replaces former superintendent Jon Gundry, who recently reached a separation agreement with the Board. Dewan's appointment took effect Wednesday.
In a statement, Dewan said she was honored to serve in the new position.

"I look forward to working with out dedicated SCCOE staff, district leaders, and community partners to continue our important work of supporting students, schools, districts, and communities," she said.
Dewan earned a bachelor's degree from Marian University, a master's degree from Butler University, and her doctorate in educational administration from Indiana State University.

With Dewan in the temporary position, board president Michael Chang said the board's focus will turn to filling the position permanently by July 1, 2018.
"As we move through this process, we will be in communication regularly with our stakeholders to ensure that everyone is informed and aware of our progress," Chang said in a statement.
