Mylar Balloon Causes Power Outage For 4,500 Palo Alto Residents

PALO ALTO, CA — A mylar balloon got stuck in power lines in Palo Alto, resulting in a power outage for about 4,500 customers on Friday afternoon, according to Palo Alto Utilities.
Power was restored around 2:55 p.m. The affected residents were mainly in the southeast part of Palo Alto.
"Please consider alternatives to mylar balloons!" the utility company tweeted. "They are a major cause of power outages and should always be kept away from overhead power lines and utility equipment."
