The museum, which has been located temporarily at Cubberley Community Center since 2018 while the new facility was being built at Rinconada Park, is a place for children to play and learn about science and nature.

The new building is 15,085 square feet, nearly twice the size of the old building. It contains a new museum and education building, a new outdoor zoo and an upgraded parking lot. The museum offers hands-on science classes for approximately 18,000 students in about 60 local elementary schools, according to its website.
