Palo Alto Elementary School Vandalism Investigated As Hate Crime

A racial epithet directed at Black people was written on a sign on campus at El Carmelo Elementary School on Monday afternoon, police said.

PALO ALTO, CA —Police are investigating vandalism at a Palo Alto elementary school last weekend as a hate crime.

Palo Alto police report they were contacted Monday afternoon by administrators at El Carmelo Elementary School at 3024 Bryant Street to report an incident of vandalism over the weekend.

Police said the City of Palo Alto strongly denounces hate crimes of all kinds, and encourages members of the community to promptly report these incidents by calling the 24-hour dispatch center at (650) 329-2413, or 9-1-1 if it is an emergency.
